The smart bassinet category exists because of one number: newborn parents lose somewhere in the region of two hours of sleep a night in the first months. Anything that reliably buys back forty minutes is worth real money. The question with any of these products is whether the clever features address the actual problem, and whether the safety fundamentals are solid underneath them.

The AngelBliss BN13 3-in-1 Smart Electric Baby Bassinet is $299.99, which is a fraction of what the best-known smart bassinets cost. Some of what it does is genuinely well thought out. One feature needs discussing properly before you buy.

The motion sensing is the feature worth paying for

Most auto-rocking bassinets are timers. You press start, the bassinet rocks for a set period, then stops - and quite often it stops at exactly the wrong moment and wakes the baby, or it rocks on pointlessly for twenty minutes after they have gone under.

Sensing that pauses when the baby settles and resumes when they stir is a different and much better idea. It means the motion is responsive rather than scheduled, and crucially it means the bassinet may catch the moment of stirring before it becomes a full wake - which is exactly the transition parents spend all night listening for. If it works reliably, that is the feature that buys back sleep.

Six height settings from 33.46 to 38.78 inches is a genuinely wide range, and it matters more than it sounds. Bedside bassinets only work if the sleep surface aligns properly with your mattress, and adult beds vary enormously - a low platform bed and a tall divan with a thick mattress are six inches apart. A narrow adjustment range is the most common reason a bedside bassinet ends up standing alone across the room, which defeats the purpose.

Twelve sounds including four white noise options is a sensible split. White noise has better evidence behind it than melodies for infant settling, and having several means you can find one your particular baby responds to.

Three things to resolve before you buy

1. Do not use the incline as a sleep surface without medical advice. This is the most important paragraph here. AngelBliss markets a 3 to 8 degree "anti-reflux incline". Current safe-sleep guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics is that infants should sleep on their backs on a firm, flat, non-inclined surface, and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission's infant sleep products rule was introduced specifically because inclined sleep surfaces were associated with infant deaths. Elevating the head of a sleep surface can allow a young baby to slump into a position that compromises their airway. Reflux is also, in most infants, a normal and self-resolving condition that does not require positional treatment. If your baby has been diagnosed with reflux, ask your paediatrician what they recommend - do not treat a product feature as medical guidance. Used flat, this is a bassinet; used inclined for unsupervised sleep, it is doing something current guidance advises against.

2. No safety certification is stated on the listing. For an infant sleep product this is the first thing that should appear. In the US, bassinets must comply with the applicable CPSC standard, and reputable products state their ASTM and CPSC compliance plainly. The AngelBliss listing describes features at length and certification not at all. Ask AngelBliss directly which standards the BN13 is certified to, and do not order until you have that in writing. Related gaps: there is no published maximum infant weight, no age or developmental limit (bassinet use normally ends when a baby can push up on hands and knees or roll), and no mattress firmness or thickness specification.

3. Powered motion has its own considerations. A bassinet that rocks by itself needs mains power, which means a cable running to the side of your bed - a genuine trip hazard in a dark room at 3 am, and something to route carefully well away from the cot. It is also worth thinking about what happens as your baby gets used to being rocked to sleep by a machine; sleep associations formed with motion can be harder to unwind later. That is not a fault of this product, but it is a reason some parents deliberately choose a static bassinet.

Who should buy it - and who should not

Buy it if you want the responsive-motion feature at a fraction of premium smart bassinet pricing, your bed height sits in the 33 to 39 inch range, and you have satisfied yourself on the certification question. Used flat, with the motion sensing doing the work, this addresses the real problem for a realistic price.

Skip it if AngelBliss cannot confirm CPSC and ASTM compliance, if you were buying specifically for the incline feature, or if you would rather not have a powered device with a cable beside your bed. A simple certified flat bassinet is never the wrong answer.

Verdict

There is a good product here. Responsive motion sensing rather than a dumb timer is the correct design insight, the height range is genuinely usable, and $299.99 undercuts the category leaders substantially. But an infant sleep product is judged on its safety information first and its features second, and this listing has that backwards - it details twelve lullabies and does not name a single standard it complies with. Get the certification in writing, keep the sleep surface flat, and talk to your paediatrician about reflux rather than to a product page.
