Lumibricks Neon Tech Tower Review: 2,227 Pieces, 27 Built-In LEDs, and One Sizing Catch

The adult building-set market has a problem it does not like discussing: lighting. You buy a beautiful 2,000-piece display model, then spend another £40 and an evening threading a third-party LED kit through it, hoping you do not snap a wire. Lumibricks built their entire brand on removing that step — the lights are designed into the set. The Neon Tech Tower at $149.99 is their 2026 cyberpunk flagship, and it is a good test of whether that idea holds up.

Specs at a glance

That last row is mine, not theirs — $149.99 divided by 2,227 pieces. I include it because piece-price is the standard the hobby judges sets by, and 6.7 cents is a reasonable number before you account for the 27 LEDs, which no plain brick set includes.

The lighting is the product

Twenty-seven light points is a substantial integrated lighting system, but the more interesting element is the dynamic flowing light strip running vertically up the structure — animated rather than static, meant to read as data moving through the building.

Two acrylic panels do the rest of the work: a side panel that works with the flowing strip to add depth and motion, and a top panel that illuminates the "NEONCITY" logo. Combined with 9 silver-coated elements that catch light at different angles, the set is clearly engineered to be looked at in a dark room, which is a design goal most brick sets never even attempt.

There is also an expansion argument. Side-mounted connectors support linked power delivery across up to four scene-scale models, so a Lumibricks city block runs from one supply rather than four. A detachable bridge connector links it to the Neon Tech Station for elevated walkways between buildings.

Modularity done properly

This is where the set earns its price for me. Three quick-release structures, each solving a real display problem:

• Detachable base — drops overall height from 18.5 in to about 13.4 in so it fits a standard display cabinet
• Removable CEO Office module — the top floor pulls out complete, for close viewing or photography
• Quick-release side wall — the right wall opens in seconds to reveal the internal layered architecture

Interior detail you cannot see is wasted work. A wall that opens in seconds means the interior actually gets looked at.

The four floors and five characters

The narrative is structured rather than decorative: lower levels collect data, the core processes it, and the top-floor CEO Office directs operations. The five original minifigures map onto that — Elias Kade the corporate controller, Manson Holt the technical engineer, Argus the data researcher, Violet the citizen, and Nyx the hacker attempting to infiltrate the system.

Three honest drawbacks

1. It is genuinely large, and the detachable base is an admission of that. At 18.5 inches assembled, this does not fit most standard display cabinets — which is precisely why Lumibricks engineered a base you can remove to get it down to 13.4 inches. That is a thoughtful solution, but it also means the set as designed is taller than the furniture most people own. Measure your shelf before ordering, and be aware that the version that fits your cabinet is the shorter one.
2. The lighting only works powered, which constrains where it can live. The 27 LEDs, the flowing strip and both acrylic panels are the reason to buy this set over a cheaper unlit one. That means the display spot needs to be somewhere a power connection can reach, and the set is at its least impressive in a bright room. If your only display space is a sunlit shelf far from an outlet, you are paying for a feature you will rarely see.
3. Lumibricks does not publish compatibility or age guidance on this product page. There is no stated minimum age and no compatibility statement with other brick brands in the product specification — the compatibility question is handled in a separate blog article rather than on the listing. For a 2,227-piece set at this price, I would want both stated up front, and I am not going to assert either on their behalf. If you are buying for a specific age or planning to mix with an existing collection, ask their support before ordering.

Who should buy it

Buy the Neon Tech Tower if you are an adult builder who displays finished sets rather than dismantling them, and if cyberpunk or Blade Runner-adjacent aesthetics appeal. The integrated lighting is worth real money against buying a set and a third-party LED kit separately, and the 100% printed parts mean no peeling stickers in two years. It is also the right buy if you intend to build a connected Lumibricks cityscape, because the linked power across four models only pays off at scale.

Who should not

Skip it if you build for the building rather than the display — the lighting premium is wasted on a set that goes back in the box. Skip it if your display space is small or bright, or nowhere near a power source. And skip it if you need confirmed cross-brand compatibility before you commit, until you have that answer directly from Lumibricks.

The verdict

Neon Tech Tower is a display piece first and a building exercise second, and it is honest about that. The engineering decisions that impressed me are the unglamorous ones: a detachable base that solves a cabinet-height problem, a side wall that opens so the interior gets seen, printed parts instead of stickers, and a spare-parts-friendly linked power system that anticipates you buying more.

My recommendation: at roughly 6.7 cents per piece with 27 integrated LEDs included, this is fair value for what it is. Decide where it will live before you order — that single decision, base on or base off, matters more here than on any set I have looked at recently.
