Down bedding is one of the few categories where the specifications tell you almost everything, if you know which three to read. Most shoppers look at thread count, which is close to irrelevant here. The numbers that matter are fill power, fill weight and construction - and the Puredown Made in Germany 800 Fill Power Goose Down Comforter publishes all three, which already puts it ahead of most of the market.
It is $649.99. Here is what those numbers mean and the one thing I would still want to know.

Fill power and fill weight: the two numbers people confuse
This is the single most useful thing to understand about down, so let me be precise.
Fill power measures quality, not quantity. It is the number of cubic inches one ounce of down expands to fill. Higher fill power means larger, more mature clusters that trap more air per unit of weight. Ordinary down runs 550 to 650; good down is 700; 800 is genuinely premium, and above that you are into rarefied and expensive territory. Practically, high fill power means the same warmth in a lighter, loftier, more drapeable duvet - which is what people mean when they say a hotel duvet feels weightless but warm.
Fill weight measures quantity. Puredown publishes it per size, which is unusual and welcome - 39.6 oz in a Full/Queen at 800 fill power is a substantial amount of high-grade down, and it is why this is classed as a heavyweight, cold-climate duvet. Together the two numbers tell you exactly what you are getting; either one alone tells you very little, which is why most sellers only publish one.
Baffle box construction is the third specification that matters and the one most shoppers skip. In a cheap sewn-through duvet, the top and bottom fabrics are stitched directly together, creating cold seams along every line and squashing the loft flat where the stitching runs. A baffle box inserts fabric walls between the layers, so each chamber has full depth and the down can loft properly throughout - and it stops the fill migrating into a lumpy pile at one end. On an 800 fill power duvet, sewn-through construction would waste the down entirely.
The 430 thread count cotton cover is also correctly specified for the job. Its purpose is not luxury feel - it is down-proofing, a weave tight enough to stop quills working through. And Puredown states it is machine washable, which many premium down duvets are not.

Three honest drawbacks
1. No down sourcing certification is stated. This is the gap I would most want closed. Down is an animal product, and the industry standard for humane sourcing is the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), with Downpass as the main European equivalent - both certify that down comes from birds not subjected to live-plucking or force-feeding, and both are traceable through the supply chain. For a product marketed as "Made in Germany", where Downpass certification is common, its absence from the listing is conspicuous. Ask Puredown whether the down is RDS or Downpass certified. If humane sourcing matters to you, treat the answer as decisive.
2. Machine washable does not mean easy to wash. The care instructions are correct, but a Full/Queen duvet with nearly 40 oz of down is a large, water-heavy item, and most domestic washing machines cannot handle it without the drum being overloaded - which is how baffles get torn. Drying is the harder half: down must be dried completely, which typically takes several hours on low heat with dryer balls, and any residual dampness will mildew inside the chambers where you cannot see it. Realistically, plan on a commercial machine at a laundrette, and use a duvet cover so you rarely need to wash the duvet itself.
3. It is a heavyweight duvet, and that is a genuine limitation. Puredown is clear that this is for cold sleepers and cold climates, and I would take that literally. Eight hundred fill power at 39.6 oz in a well-insulated modern bedroom, or anywhere with warm summers, will be too hot for most people for a large part of the year. There is no stated tog or warmth rating to compare against, and no all-season or lightweight option in this particular product - though Puredown's range does include an all-season model at a much lower price. Buy this only if you are genuinely cold at night.
One practical note on sizing: the listed Full is 88 x 90 inches and the King is 104 x 90 inches. Measure your bed and decide how much overhang you want, and note that Twin at 68 x 88 is comparatively narrow if you like to wrap up.
Who should buy it - and who should not
Buy it if you sleep cold, you live somewhere with real winters or you keep your bedroom cool, and you want a duvet that will last a decade or more. Eight hundred fill power in baffle box construction with published fill weights is a properly specified premium product, and at $649.99 it is priced sensibly against genuine luxury bedding.
Skip it if you sleep hot, live in a warm climate, or want one duvet for the whole year - look at an all-season weight instead. Skip it if you need certified humane down sourcing and Puredown cannot confirm it, or if you have a down allergy, in which case a good microfibre alternative is the better path.
Verdict
This is a well-specified duvet from a seller willing to publish the numbers that matter - fill power, fill weight by size, construction type and cover specification, all in one place. That transparency is rarer than it should be and it makes the product easy to evaluate. The one thing missing is the sourcing certification, and for an animal product at this price that is worth a direct question before you buy. Get the answer, make sure you are genuinely a cold sleeper, and this should serve you for years.
